Google issued a "code red" in response to the rise of ChatGPT

literally last week we reported Google saying for now they won’t be making anything in response to ChatGPT, citing it as a “reputational risk”. Now here we are a week later and there’s a code red, Sundar Pichai redirects some teams to focus on building out AI products and Google are scared ChatGPT will make them obsolete.

One week: WE ARE FINE Next Week: we are NOT fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google's parent company, Alphabet, participated in several meetings around Google's AI strategy and has directed numerous groups in the company to refocus their efforts on addressing the threat that ChatGPT poses on its search engine business, according to an internal memo and audio recording reviewed by the Times.

In particular, teams in Google's research, Trust, and Safety division among other departments have been directed to switch gears to assist in the development and launch of new AI prototypes and products, the Times reported. Some employees have even been tasked to build AI products that generate art and graphics similar to OpenAI's DALL-E used by millions of people, according to the Times.

On one hand, this is great cause it means, AI innovation will move a lot faster cause of the competition ( capitalism at its finest)

But on the other hand, from a privacy standpoint, google will definitely not be holding back, they have more than enough data on us to train an AI FAST! so yeah we should expect some “Changes in policy”

Also not Google copying the Facebook (sorry Meta) model of Copying the startup, lmao

Channel 4’s Christmas message to be written and read by a robot

PLEASE READ THIS IN A BRITISH ACCENT FOR OPTIMUM FUN

Channel 4’s alternative Christmas message will be generated and read by an AI, The message will be delivered by Ameca, one of the world’s most advanced robots.

Ameca will speak about the highs and lows of 2022, after the King’s annual Christmas message at 3 pm. Know what's even crazier??? During the address, Ameca will also respond to questions about humans.

She is due to say that humankind should be “neither happy nor sad” about the past year and “take it as a learning opportunity, a chance to change the way we think about the world and a reminder to help those in need whenever we can”.

END OF BRITISH ACCENT, Hope that was fun

I actually really hope Ameca has a British accent, that will just take whatever she has to say from a 7 to a freaking 11 over 10!

AI fails to pass a radiology-qualifying examination

Over the last couple of issues, we’ve just been on about how awesome AI is and all but after all the praises in health care and how it can have an immediate impact in the industry, it’s not YET ready to be used in REAL world situations

AI is increasingly being used for some tasks that doctors do, such as interpreting radiographs (X-rays and scans) to help diagnose a range of conditions. However, it is not yet ready to replace doctors, finds a study in the Christmas issue of The BMJ.

The AI candidate was put through a mock test, here’s were the results:

  • When uninterpretable images were excluded from the analysis, the AI candidate achieved an average overall accuracy of 79.5% and passed two of 10 mock FRCR exams, while the average radiologist achieved an accuracy of 84.8%

  • The sensitivity for the AI was 83.6% and the specificity for patients without a condition was 75.2%, compared with 84.1% and 87.3% across all radiologists

  • In 20 out of 300 radiographs that over half of the radiologists interpreted incorrectly, it was correct in 10 (50%) and correct in the remaining 10 (9%).

So as obvious from the results, AI is not YET better than human Radiologists, but it’s definitely just a matter of time.

Coolest AI Tool of the day

Our AI tool of the day is Drumroll please: Poe by Quora

Quora this week launched a platform called Poe that lets people ask questions, get instant answers and have a back-and-forth dialogue with AI.

A couple of things to note:

  • Poe isn’t trained on crowdsourced data, from Quora

  • Poe isn’t part of Quora, but an independent project that will be developed as Quora continues to grow.

An AI Made this

made what??? what did an AI make?? this section of the newsletter is dedicated to showing off really cool things an AI did.

Did you Know???

Did you know that:

The Washington Post’s “AI Writer” wrote more than 850 stories during the Rio Olympics.

(Source: The Washington Post)The Washington Post tried leveraging AI to report on key information during the 2016 Rio Olympics. They developed a writer, named Heliograf, who was used to generate multi-sentence updates for readers. It processed a combination of different data sources and then customized around 850 stories, depending on user requests.

So there you have it! The AI With Vibes newsletter. Hope you enjoyed it, any form of feedback is valuable!
