PERPLEXITY AI IS BEATING GOOGLE AT ITS GAME

The News: Perplexity AI, a new kind of search engine, just got a lot of money - $73.6 million! This makes the company worth $520 million. Even though it's new (started in August 2022), it's already doing big things in search. Perplexity AI is different because you can talk to it like a friend and ask questions. It then gives you answers with where it got the information from. This is really cool because it's not like the usual search engines we use. Big names and companies are investing in it, showing that they believe it could be as good as, or even better than, Google for searching with AI.

Why it matters: Well, Perplexity AI is growing fast and could change how we search for things online. Instead of typing in a search box, we can ask questions like we're talking to someone. This is great for finding information easily and learning new things. Lots of people and important investors think Perplexity AI is special. This means it could become a big deal in the world of search engines, making finding information online easier and more fun for everyone.

OPENAI’S GPT STORE LAUNCHES NEXT WEEK

The News: OpenAI is getting ready to open its GPT Store next week. This store is a place where people can sell and share their own AI creations, called GPTs, that they made using OpenAI's big AI brain, GPT-4. These GPTs are like little helpers that can chat and do cool things, like explain funny memes or help with tricky talks. OpenAI sent an email to the creators, asking them to make sure their GPTs follow the rules and to share them for everyone to use.

Why it matters: This is exciting because it means anyone who uses ChatGPT Plus or is a big business customer can make their own chatbot friends and share them with others. You can find some of these special GPTs in ChatGPT Plus already, but in the new store, people can also make money from the ones they create. OpenAI hasn't said exactly how they'll pay the creators yet, but they're working on it. The store was supposed to open earlier, but it got pushed back because OpenAI was really busy with stuff like their CEO Sam Altman leaving and then coming back. Now, it's finally almost ready to start!

GOOGLE’S BARD MIGHT BE GETTING SMARTER

The News: Google is working on a new, better version of Bard called "Bard Advanced." This will be part of Google One, a special service you can pay for. A tech person named Dylan Roussel found out about this on X (used to be Twitter). Bard Advanced will use Google's best AI brain, Gemini Ultra, which is smarter than the current Bard that uses Gemini Pro. Bard Advanced can do harder math and think better. There's also a new thing being made called "Motoko" that might let you make your own talking bots. Last year, OpenAI let people who pay for GPT Plus do this too.

Why it matters: Google is adding cool new stuff to Bard. There's a "power up" feature to make Bard understand better what you ask for. You might also find a "Gallery" to see fun things Bard can do. Plus, there's a "tasks" tab for keeping track of big jobs Bard is doing, like making pictures, and you can even change the background for Bard chats. We don't know yet when these new things will be ready for everyone, but Google is working hard to make Bard as good as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot. These upgrades are really exciting because they make Bard a lot smarter and more fun to use.
